Since the soccer world cup in 2010, Cape Town has seen a plethora of exciting new events, festivals and concept parties, all looking to raise the standard and give us something new to experience. The Cape Town World Music Festival promises to raise the bar and give us something genuinely unique, and we’re certain you guys and girls, our readers, will be as excited about it as we are!
The festival is designed for enthusiastic fans of the genre, as well as hopes to attract a new culturally curious audience. Cape Town will experience 32 acts over 2 days, placed on four unique stages, each showcasing diverse music from across the globe.
From traditional and roots music to world dance music and modern world adaptations from all continents, the festival caters to all music lovers.
The lineup consists of top local and international acts including Oliver Mtukudzi (Zim), Dirty Bounce (SA), Spoek Mathambo (SA), Freshlyground, Bateleur, Fletcher and Toby2Shoes. One act in particular which we’re extremely excited to see again is Christian Tiger School, a brand new, young, electronic duo freshly out of Cape Town who play beautifully crafted, dreamy/psychedelic hiphop beats. If you haven’t seen these kids yet, do yourself a favor and grab your tickets now!
Spanning from Harrington Square to the Assembly and the Mahogany Room, the Cape Town World Music Festival will feature: a main day/night live music stage with both local and international artists, a day time free stage, an intimate acoustic/listening space and a late night Nu World dance stage featuring the best of world dance music. The festival will also host a series of music and industry workshops as a build up to the main event, as well as host a day time local craft market, food stalls and bars on event days.
